Meet the Classes - The Sellsword
Ingo stepped back slowly, widening his stance so that he could dance on the balls of his feet. The three men in front of him leered over their sabres, the ice in their eyes could freeze blood in a man's veins. "Ain't so fair, you three against me," Ingo said, pulling out his short sword. The hilt was chipped and cut from years of hard work.
"Don't care about playing fair!" one of the thugs barked. Inching closer with his sword extended like a magician's wand.
"Ah, come now. I'm sure the rest of you posse would love to join in." Ingo goaded, and the thugs took the bait. At once, they lunged at Ingo. Bumping into each other and getting their blades twisted, shouting short curses to one another as Ingo effortlessly parried each attack. Using the flat of his blade to break one of the thug's noses and with his next attack, piecing the thick neck of another and spurting out dark rivers of blood like a crumbling fountain. Another made a swing at his head, causing Ingo to duck out of the way. Je swiftly sliced his short sword through the man's stomach, carving into him like butter. The last man keeled over in his own draining life as the first man recovered from his broken nose.
"I just want what's owed to me," Ingo said, standing over him as the thug's eyes were still teary and burning. The man didn't know what to say, even if he could speak, his mouth was too full of blood and pain to utter a sound. Instead, he feebly reached into his pocket, throwing out a purse which hit the ground with a heavy clang of coins. Ingo picked up the purse and slipped it into his coat pocket. "Pleasure doing business with you, don't ever cheat me again."
The Sellsword:
A master of blades...for a price.
Many Sellswords make their start by joining a local town guard or militia, learning and making connections before venturing out on their enterprise. Many of whom bring their armour and weapons from their time in the service. At this stage, Sellswords then tend to wander about. Looking for any work. Many are taking on dangerous jobs for the thrill of action, only to meet their demise soon thereafter. And those that survive become stronger, and far richer to boot.
Many Sellswords that live around the Crow's Pass, or happen to be travelling by, tend to go to the city of Drowheim. There is plenty of work to be had, and where an up-and-coming Sellsword could make a name for themselves.
Many veteran Sellswords look for more permanent work in cities or towns to retire in, often taking up roles as either sword instructors or a captain of city guards.
Below is some wonderful art done by Franklin Lima ( Art Station @https://www.artstation.com/frank_lima Instagram @ https://www.instagram.com/frank.fcl?igsh=MWEyY2Rlbm15ZGpjZQ==) showing a Sellsword double fisting blades, scouring the landscape. Is he watching out for danger, or is he the danger?
Stay tuned for the next class and much more soon!
